The South Shore Cultural Center will host more than 15,000 members of the South Shore area and surrounding communities in it’s annual summer celebration on August 18, 2019 – The South Shore Summer Festival!

This will be a day to network while enjoying the soulful sounds of local and national musical artists, the neighborhood’s favorite foods, and opportunities to shop with small businesses from the South Shore area and surrounding communities. The South Shore Summer Festival is the ideal event for residents to connect with all things “South Shore”.

This festival offers corporations targeting Chicago’s African American consumer the opportunity to sponsor this annual event and showcase your brand before this diverse audience.

South Shore Festival At A Glance

The South Shore Summer Festival will feature some exciting attractions!  Check out what you can expect at the South Shore Summer Festival 2019!

Discover local small businesses and shop must-have apparel, accessories, beauty products, health & wellness and more!

Eat, Drink and Discover a wide range of South Shore’s mouthwatering selections at the Festival Café.  Alcohol beverages will be available for attendees 21+ (ID required to receive wristband).

A family, fun-filled space that will include exciting attractions and activities for our younger festival goers; bouncy houses, mini obstacle courses, giant games and much more!

Stop by Wellness by the Shore to check out local and national health organizations offering complimentary screenings, fitness tips, nutritional information, and tons of healthy giveaways.

Escape the beaming hot sun and cool off in our branded water misting zones located throughout festival grounds.

The Main Attraction of the South Shore Summer Festival featuring National Musical Artists, Local Favorite Acts, Dance Teams, The Famous South Shore Drill Team & Much More.

South Shore Beachfront Volleyball, Frisbee Tossing, Kite Flying and Much More will be available for attendees of the South Shore Summer Festival.

Sail the shore and learn more about Chicago’s fabulous lakefront in the Lake Michigan Water Trail at South Shore Beach.

SSSF Do’s and Don’ts

Please Note: All Bags of any kind (Purses, Bookbags, Totes, etc.) will be subject to inspection upon entrance to the South Shore Cultural Center.

South Shore Summer Festival Do’s:


● Lawn Chairs

● Strollers

● Binoculars

● Blankets, Sheets, Towels

● Soft Sided insulated tote coolers will be allowed (they must be carried, no wheeled insulated coolers allowed)

● Coolers can only contain plastic bottled water



South Shore Summer Fest Don’ts:

● Outside food or beverage (including alcohol) of any kind

● Tables of any kind

● No Grills

● Any and all professional audio recording equipment

● Any and all professional video equipment – no video recording will be allowed

● Professional cameras (any camera with the option to detach lens)

● Any all camera accessories, such as selfie sticks, tripods, monopods, go pro mounts and attachments, detachable lenses, or other commercial equipment

● No Glass Bottles

● No Tents

Parking/Directions


Parking is not available on-site at the South Shore Cultural Center for this event.


Parking Lots Available For SSSF 2019 include –

Okeefe Elementary School located at 6940 S. Merrill Ave.

Adam Clayton Powell located at 7511 S. South Shore Drive

Shuttle Services will be available from Parking Lots to the South Shore Summer Festival venue.

A Chicago native and fierce community advocate with deep roots in the South Shore and Hyde Park neighborhoods, Leslie Hairston has built a professional career dedicated to public service. She recently won election to her fifth term as alderman of Chicago’s 5th Ward and sits on six City committees – Economic, Capital & Technology Development (vice chair), Finance; Budget & Government Operations; Committees, Rules & Ethics; Health & Environmental Protection; and Special Events, Cultural Affairs & Recreation.

Since her election to the aldermanic office in 1999, Hairston has been instrumental in spearheading infrastructure improvements, business development, and initiatives to enhance ward residents’ safety, security and quality of life.
